St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17th, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.
On this year’s St. Patrick’s Day, teachers、students of GTM campus of Etonkids International Kindergarten as well as parents came into school wearing green clothes, following the Irish tradition.
In the library, foreign teachers from Ireland told the children about the origin and history of St. Patrick’s Day. Our two classrooms each had a different St. Patrick’s Day themed craft: in the Firefly classroom our students made tall, green hats and in the Bumblebee classroom they made shamrock-shaped badges. As a cooking activity we decorated shamrock-shaped cookies with green frosting and sprinkles. At the end of the party, parents and children came together in the library and were treated to a traditional Irish dance performed by dancers who were flown in from Ireland. This event in particular was much enjoyed by everyone and many of children danced along enthusiastically during the performance.
The party was an overall success and opened the children’s minds to other cultures and their traditions. We hope similar events during the rest of the year will further this education and that they will enjoy and grow from them as much as from our St. Patrick’s Day party.
