June 13, 2010: On this final day of the tradition Chinese holiday, we made the festival’s traditional treat, zongzi, using lots of different ingredients for a variety of tastes to share. We also learned about the origins and customs of the holiday. Some of our zongzi came out better than others at first, but eventually we all got the hang of each technique involved in the making of a perfect zongzi: using the right amount of filling, wrapping the banana leaf tightly, and tying them together. After steaming, students dug into their tasty creations and took some home to show Mom and Dad.
