EMTTA is the first indigenous Montessori teacher education program in China accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) and affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS).

Download A Handbook of Early Childhood Schedule and Application Process 2009-10 The minimum time frame for completion of the EMTTA early childhood program is twelve months. The upcoming cycle begins on 29 June 2009 and ends on 30 June 2010. EMTTA begins with a seven-week summer session. Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Successful completion of the summer coursework allows the student to student-teach in a Montessori classroom. During the student teaching year, there will be monthly seminars and practice sessions plus 3 weekend seminars. The student will have a mentor to help them with observation and research assignments and who will observe them working with children.

Module II [4 weeks] 29 June 2009 – 25 July 2009 o Human Development: Current Theories o Montessori Approach & Theory: historical and current o Observation Theory and Practices o Prepared Environment: physical, social, and psychological environments o Practical Life Exercises—Theory & Practices o Language development in a multi-lingual school: Theory and Practices
Module III [3 weeks] 27 July – 15 August 2009 o Sensorial Education: Theory and Practices o Mathematics Education – Theory and Practices o The Arts, Geography, History, Biology and Science Education o Creating Partnerships with Parents, and Classroom Leadership
Module IV, Weekend Seminars [3] These are held on Saturdays and Sundays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. o Art, Movement, & Music o Sharing of classroom Observation assignments o Practical Exams o Understanding Administrative Issues o Parent Partnerships
Module V, Practicum – Student Teaching Begins after completion of Modules I, II, and III. September – June. Additional assignments are required.

Applicants must have at least a high school diploma [a bachelors degree is preferred]. Applicants must --
1. submit the completed application form with the non-refundable application fee.

Early Childhood Chinese
Transfer of coursework into AMEI [please arrange a meeting to discuss your Montessori credential]
Certificate of Attendance [for those who do not want to fulfill the requirements for a credential]
2. attend an interview with the director or a staff member
3. submit two original transcripts, in original language and a copy in English. The translation may be done by a lawyer, college/university, or professional evaluating organization that provides translation services. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree, we encourage you to have the degree evaluated by World Education Services [wes.org].
4. submit 2 recent 1”x 1” photos
5. submit a one page essay on “Why I want to become a Montessori teacher.”
MACTE is the premier internationally recognized standard-setting and accrediting body for Montessori teacher education in the world. The American Montessori Society is the foremost advocate for Montessori teacher education worldwide.

The early childhood course at EMTTA is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS) and holds accredited status from Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) for its Early Childhood courses. MACTE is a private, non-governmental organization which advocates high standards in preparation of the early childhood Montessori teacher, establishes criteria of program excellence, and evaluates and accredits Montessori teacher education programs.
