EtonĄ¯s Nursery program offers
children at this stage a unique time for self development
in an atmosphere of understanding, and support. The
classroom provides each child with a structure to
promote each child's personal development in all areas
of life.
The Nursery program hosts a class of children 18-36 months of age and walking. By grouping children of this
age together, all students are provided with a wide
opportunity to develop. During this Sensitive Period of development, children
experience
fine motor skill development, language development
and self development with a strong emphasis on practical
life.
Activities in the Nursery environment are in proportion
to the childĄ¯s size and allow each child to choose
independently what activity he or she would like to do.
As each child chooses what he or she would like to learn,
each child experiences the excitement of learning through freedom of movement to explore,
and enough the time to complete the projects that he/she starts.
Emphasis is placed on providing a foundation for further
development in language, mathematics and culture.
Practical life activities are particularly important
at this stage, including developing patterns of order,
sequence and the five senses. Movement
is reinforced in the nursery program through indoor
and outdoor activities of song, dance and play. |
