In the Kindergarten / Reception
environment, particular attention is given to a childĄ¯s
language, mathematics, sensorial development, practical
life activities and cultural understanding. Each item
is proportionate to the childĄ¯s size and is designed
to be safe and aesthetically pleasing for children.
Activities are positioned around the room for children
to choose independently. Each child learns independently,
assuring that each child can reach their own potential
at their own pace of development.
Children ages 3 - 6 are fully capable of learning
meaningful things, and intellectual stimulation given
at this age level helps set the foundation for later
academic success. A program of play does not prepare
the child to organize his/her mental processes, which
is necessary for academic success. Therefore, a Montessori
program is a learning program designed to foster and
build an intrinsic love of learning.
The Montessori Kindergarten/ Reception curriculum
allows your child to explore and discover new concepts
through a "hands on" approach. The children
work with a wide range of material designed to clearly
and easily present concepts and relationships. Your
child will also prepare his hand for writing by developing
lightness of touch through work with sandpaper letters,
and metal insets, learning how letters are formed
and then how to write words, sentences and paragraphs.
Your child develops confidence and competence with
the language and experiences of shapes, textures,
smells, and tastes of his/her environment. Children
learn to care for themselves and their environment,
both at home and school . |
